Have you ever felt the hand of God holding you? Have you sensed the eyes of God watching you? How about the ears of the Lord listening to you or the nostrils of the Lord venting steam? It may not be natural for us to think of God’s anatomy, but it was for the biblical writers.

Divine Anatomy is a study of the Bible’s references to the body parts of God. Because divine anatomical language is frequently used in Scripture it is easily taken for granted. Such language, however, plays an important role in helping human beings to relate with God. From the face of God to the feet of God, Divine Anatomy shows the biblical significance of each body part. In the process, readers are introduced to the content of Scripture. And since Jesus is the primary content of Scripture, each body part is examined in relation to him.

Throughout the study, readers are confronted with interpretive challenges. For example, should the references to God’s face be interpreted literally or metaphorically? And on what basis, do we make such interpretive choices? While explanations are given for interpretive conundrums, the ultimate question: Does God really have a body? is not directly addressed until the final chapter. In that chapter, insights from Augustine and John Calvin are considered.

Divine Anatomy uses the biblical references to God’s body to introduce the content and interpretation of Scripture. The goal throughout is to highlight Jesus Christ and inspire readers to worship the God of the Bible.

We are so happy to be able to bring Les on board. It is all about being the Hands and Feet of Jesus!
