Bernard is writing from his vast experience. He has a B. S. in Atmospheric Science, University of Washington, was a Weather Officer with the United States Air Force Reserve, 1963-1996 (two tours of Vietnam 1965-1966, Meritorious Service Medal 1993, Flight with Hurricane Hunters 1995, and Legion of Merit 1996), meteorologist, and defense contractor 1968-1996. In 2008, the original version of Eyewall was awarded first place in the SWA novel competition.
In 2005, a short story, “Oregon Grinder”, was granted an honorable mention in the Lorian Hemingway Competition.
Eyewall took first place in Sci-fi and in Novel at the 2010 Southeastern Writers’ Association Conference.
Buzz Bernard has taken St. Simons Island by storm! He was a guest speaker at the Southeastern Writers’ Association conference at Epworth by the Sea, received an award and gave one out dedicated to his father who wrote over 37 textbooks in his lifetime. Unreal! The apple does not fall far from the tree, eh?
