Osborn is a former payload flight controller, a veteran of over twenty years of working in the civilian space program, as well as various military space defense programs. She has worked on numerous Space Shuttle flights and the International Space Station, and counts the training of astronauts on her résumé. Of those astronauts she trained, one was Kalpana Chawla, a member of the crew lost in the Columbia disaster.
She holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in four sciences: astronomy, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and she is “fluent” in several more, including geology and anatomy. She obtained her various degrees from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
Stephanie is currently retired from space work. She now happily “passes it forward, ” teaching math and science via numerous media including radio, podcasting, and public speaking, as well as working with SIGMA, the science fiction think tank, while writing science fiction mysteries based on her knowledge, experience, and travels.

The Case of the Displaced Detective:
The Arrival
The Case of the Displaced Detective: The Arrival is a mystery/sci-fi novel with none other than Sherlock Holmes himself, in an alternate reality in which he is a real person and his adventures, literal. Our cadres are scientists and technicians at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs in a wormhole-type program, Project: Tesseract, which can span the multiverse, observing, and even able to interact with alternate realities, although the latter is verboten.
Unfortunately, during the climactic battle between Holmes and Professor Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls (in that reality, both men die), the chief scientist, Dr. Skye Chadwick, brilliant hyperspatial dynamicist, responds in a “knee jerk” reaction, rescuing Holmes, who falls through the wormhole into our modern reality, and now cannot be sent back without dying. He logically chooses to stay in the present day and live. Chadwick is assigned as Holmes’ liaison to bring him up to speed on modern life. This learning curve proceeds apace, and the two become close friends. Soon Chadwick essentially becomes Holmes’ replacement for Watson, Mrs. Hudson, and Mycroft Holmes, in one person.
With this unbeatable duo the plot thickens, twists and turns are navigated, and literary and reality worlds collide making this a must-read for anyone who enjoys mysteries, sleuthing, and, of course, Sherlock Holmes.
At Speed
Aborting one attempt to sabotage Project: Tesseract, Sherlock Holmes — up to speed in his new life and spacetime continuum — and Dr. Skye Chadwick — hyperspatial physicist, Holmes’ new “Watson” — must catch a spy ring when they don’t even know the ring’s goal. Meanwhile Skye recovers from two nigh-fatal gunshot wounds.
A further complication is their relationship: the ups and downs between the pair are more than occasional clashes of demanding, eccentric personalities. Chadwick is in love with Holmes. Knowing his predilection for eschewing matters of the heart, she struggles to hide it, in order to maintain the friendship they DO have. Holmes also feels attraction — but fights it tooth and nail, refusing to admit it, even to himself. For it is not merely Skye’s work the spies may be after — but her life as well. Having lost Watson to the vagaries of spacetime, could he endure losing another companion?
Can they work out the intricacies of their relationship? Can they determine why the spy ring is after the tesseract? And — most importantly — can they stop it?

The secret book Stephanie Osborn and Travis S. Taylor have been working on is available for pre-order. Well, the secret part, at least. The book itself won’t be available until November. This will be a hot item. Check out the links below.
The Rocket City Rednecks’ New American Space Plan
Popular science from the Rocket City Rednecks, as seen in multiple appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and in the National Geographic Channel’s hit series.
Meet the Rocket City Rednecks. They’re five “backwoods” guys from the rocket city: Huntsville, Alabama, home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the birthplace of the U.S. space program. Sure, they love to shoot stuff and drink beer, and one of ’em lives in a trailer, but with a family tree full of NASA rocket scientists (not to mention their own PhDs and advanced degrees), they aim a little higher—like using homemade moonshine to fuel a rocket!
Now, in typical laidback style, Dr. Travis S. Taylor, leader of the crew, delivers the goods on how America can return to space exploration and manned space flight – and can probably do so with common items found in a typical redneck backyard. What’s needed is a good old “try anything” attitude, a bit of gumption, and the spectacularly entertaining backyard science that’s the Rocket City Redneckspecialty.

Also, just released a small, 99-cent ebook. Those of you who know that I presented a paper at a Sherlockian (Sherlock Holmes fandom) gathering this past weekend, and wanted to know all about it, can now download it to Kindle. (I’m working on Nook and stuff, but this is my first time to try an ebook pub, and Sarah Hoyt is walking me through it a few baby steps at a time.) It’s called Sherlock, Sheilas, and the Seven-Percent Solution, and it can be found here:

Sherlock, Sheilas, and the Seven-Percent Solution

Sherlock Holmes, the world’s first consulting detective, the most popular fictional character in history – and admitted drug abuser. Have you ever wondered why? Surely such a brilliant mind wasn’t in it for the “high” alone – was he? What about the side effects? Was there a benefit to its use that Watson couldn’t tell us because of the mores of his day? Sherlock, Sheilas and the Seven-Percent Solution explores, and perhaps answers, all these questions, and more.
Both publications, btw, are nonfiction science, but easy to read.
